Lidge Back, Phils Stuggle in Atlanta

Lidge came back shining for only one inning. He had one strikeout with 2 ground outs all on sliders. The Phils? They did get 3 runs in a 9-3 blow out against the Braves. Still no homers in 62 innings. Tomorrow is always another day. What I don't get is why Pete McKanin (Maneul was thrown out of the game because he was arguing that Wilson Valdez (I think) got hit by a pitch) would take out Greg Dobbs and put in Juan Castro instead of Jayson Werth when the Phils has a rally going in the top of the 7th inning. Juan Castro was batting with 2 outs and grounded out to second. Jayson probably would have put the ball in play to score 3 runs to make it 5-6 Braves. No, he didn't do that though.

Brad Lidge:
He had a great outing today coming back from a cortisone shot.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Atlanta Braves

So we start the 3 game series against the Braves. If I remember correctly we lost the first game of a 3 game series, then won the last 2. That seemed to be our MO before J-roll go injured.

Jason Hayward: He can be as dangerous as Ryan Howard or Albert Pujols. He can blast home runs any time of the day.

Philadelphia Phillies: Looking to stay in first place in the NL East. They fell after the Mets, about a month ago knocked them out. Had the largest lead in a division of any team on May 17, with a 5 game division lead. Batting a .186 and hasn't homered in 54 innings, which, is a seaon high. Ryan Howard is a 4 for 27 (.148) with 9 strikeouts and 1 RBI. Chase Utley is 4 for 30 (.133) also with one RBI.

"I have no idea why this is happening," Howard said.

"We've never used excuses and we're not going to start now," manager Charlie Manuel said. "We'll come out of it at some point. It might be tomorrow or it might be the next day, but this team will get back to where we were."

Atlanta Braves: Braves have won 10 of their last 12 games. They have a 15-4 record in May, which is the best in Major League Baseball.

"We still have 100-plus games to go," said Chipper Jones, who had a tie breaking RBI single in the eighth inning of Sunday's 5-2 win over Pittsburgh. "We're playing well. (The Phillies) are struggling a little bit. Let's just go out and play them. Have fun. Do the same things we've been doing for the last month. It's not do or die."

Lineup: Phillies
1 - Ross Gload (RF)
2 - Greg Dobbs (3B)
3 - Chase Utley (2B)
4 - Ryan Howard (1B)
5 - Shane Victorino (CF)
6 - Rual Ibanez (LF)
7 - Carlos Ruiz (C)

4 - Brian McCann (C)
5 - Troy Glaus (1B)

Post Game: Phillies @ Marlins.

Final: 1-0.

Phillies win  oh wait the Marlins won that game. That's right, Jamie and the Phils couldn't pull out a win. It was the same score as Halladay's perfect game. The offense just didn't get their bats going today. Their were only 4 hits. 2 of them from Shane Victorino.

Placido Polanco:
His MRI came back from Philly. Their is no structural damage, but he will get a cortisone shot on Monday, and return in Atlanta either Tuesday or Wednesday.

Phillies, Marlins: Rubber Match

Phillies are on a high streak right now after Roy Halladay pitched a perfecta. They are looking to sweep the Marlins. Can they defeat the Fish with their offensive problems? I think they will because of last night. Moyer is looking for his 6th win of the season. In the 1st inning it looks like they are taking pitches.

Lineup: Phillies

Its a Hallady in Miami

Doc ordered a perfect prescription.
Roy Halladay just got done pitching a perfect game! What was the score? Well the Philadelphia offense only mustered 1 run, perfect game against Florida, what did they get? Well a big fat 0 up on the score board. He has pitched the 2nd perfect game in Phillies history.

Score:
1-0 Phillies on top.

Defense:
Juan Castro playing 3rd base for the injured Placido Polanco. Polanco is still felling the effects of a swollen left elbow that got hit by a pitch from Tim Hudson of the Braves. He is under going a MRI on Sunday.

"It's been bothering me ever since I got hit," said Polanco, who feels the injury was made worse by coming back too soon. "It comes and goes. I've been able to play, but sometimes I swing and miss and it seems like I hyper extend my elbow, and then it feels weak and I can't extend it, field or hit.

"It hurts there a little bit, too, just from the touch."

"The MRI is going to be the answer to everything," Polanco said. "See how bad it is and what it is and if it can get worse, or if it's just inflammation."

Playing at SS is Wilson Valdez, who is trying to stay up with the Phils. Valdez's time maybe running out with Phils as Jimmy Rollins is expected to be back by June 6. Either Castro or Valdez is to be optioned to AAA ball. If Polanco is going on the DL both of them will stay up and play for a little longer.

"I don't think about that," Valdez said in Spanish. "What I have to think about is helping [the team], playing, doing my job, and for them to decide what they need to decide, because I can't control those things. The only things I control are the games they put me to play in. They have their plans, and they know what they have to do. Not me."

"I put him out there because he has talent, he can run, he can handle the bat," Manuel said. "He was trying to hit that hole last night and hit that ball to right field, and that's the sign of a guy who knows how to play."

Phillies @ Marlins Pre Game

Halladay is preparing to get his 7th win in his 10 starts in season. He is 6-3 with only 1 no decision. Halladay has 6 complete games. Is this a Halladay for the Phillies and the fans? His last 3 starts the Phillies offense have not supported him those 3 games. Their offense had scrambled only scoring 7 runs with him on the lump. The big 'O is not very big right now. They struggle with runners in scoring position, and hitting the long ball. They have hit zero home runs this week. Roy is definitely having a career year.

Phillies @ Marlins Recap

Phillies @ Marlins    Final Score: 3-2 Phils
Wow! Phillies win this game 3-2. Kyle Kendrick gets his 3rd win of the season he is now 3-2. It was a game were they were doing tiny things to get runs. They did things like stealing bases, hitting, and defense. It was good to see them get out of the slump. They went 30 innings without a run, 38 innings without a run against a starting pitcher, 3 games with shutouts. This is a slump that will probably not get broken for a long time. Time to white wash some teams?

Tomorrow's Match Up
Roy Halladay 6-3 2.22 ERA
Josh Johnson 5-1 2.43 ERA

Some things to look at:
Jayson Werth got some rest today. He should be ready to go hit tomorrow.
Ryan Howard has been hitting.
Raul Ibanez has also been seeing the ball pretty well (had a triple in tonight's game)
Roy Halladay is looking to get revenge after the loss against the Boston Red Soxs.

Where are the Phillies bats?!

Offensive Woes:

I think the Phillies have lost their bats since battleing against Tim Wakefield and the Boston Red Soxs last weekend. Tim Wakefield almost had a no-hitter against the Phillies lineup. Today, the Phillies are looking to wake up there snoozing bats against the Florida Marlins. The Phillies have been in a slump batting only .266, with no runs against starting pitchers. Phillies have been hitting singles and doubles but not homeruns or with runners in scoring position.

Injuries have also hurt the Phillies:
Carlos Ruiz (C) has a sore right shoulder -- Day to Day
Jimmy Rollins (SS) has a strained right calf (second this year) -- 15 Day DL list
Ryan Madson (BP) has a broken right big toe -- 60 Day DL list
Brad Lidge (CL) has right elbow inflammation -- 15 Day DL list
J.A. Happ (SP) has a Left Forarm Strain -- 15 Day DL list

Jimmy Rollins really sparks this team. As a leadoff hitter it really stings them to lose their leadoff hitter again! The first time he strained his right calf he was out for almost a month.

Carlos Ruiz is really isn't a problem. He dosn't get injuried too much. Carlos is in the lineup for the Phillies tonight.

Ryan Madson is part of the 'pen but he can also be a starting pitcher. That day he kicked his foot againt the chair, it was out of frustration. He pretty much almost blew a save. He was angry so he went back to the dugout and kicked a chair.

JA Happ is a starting pitcher and a young good one. He came 2nd in Rookie of the Year. He went 12-4 last year. He was drafted in the 3rd round of the Amtueur draft in 2004 from Northwestern University. I don't expect him to get injuried too much.

Brad Lidge just is not getting healthy. They want him to get healthy so he can save another perfect season like he did in 2008 when they won the world series.

Welcome to Ashburn Alley!
